San Antonio Rock 'N' Roll Half Marathon recap

A couple of weeks ago, the hubs and I completed the San Antonio Half Marathon! This was part of the Rock 'N' Roll series of runs and it was very well organized and tons of fun.

This was my 5th half marathon and it never gets old to cross a finish line! The course was lined with spectators near the Alamo and the bands along the course were great! The course was really flat which was definitely nice. Our goal time for this run was 2:15:00 and we managed to finish in 2:12:40. We felt good about the run. I had to walk once around mile 8 when my knee had a sharp stabbing pain. Thankfully I was able to stretch out the pain and recover quickly. Then my husband had a rock in his shoe around mile 9 so we had to stop for him too. With these little hiccups, I feel pretty good about our finish time.

The weather was perfect. It was a little chilly at first but we warmed up once the race started. The 7 AM start time is always painful but we went to sleep early the night before the run, ate lots of yummy carbs, and stayed hydrated.

The course was loaded with fun sights so the time passed quickly for us. Running in downtown was awesome except for the stone streets in front of the Alamo. That HURT the knees but the crowd cheering us on took our minds off the pain. The course also passed through the King William district where there are many gorgeous old homes that have been restored. They had water stops and cytomax every 1.5 miles so we felt great with plenty of fluids in our bodies.

They handed out disposable "blankets" at the finish line because it was COLD once we stopped running. There is nothing more miserable than the long walk back to the car when you're cold and sweaty. Eww. Thank goodness for those blankets!

The racing shirts were nice at this run! They are a pretty navy color with a cool San Antonio logo. The medals were cool too. You know this girl loves the bling! It's perfectly sane to devote several months of your life to training, get up at 4 AM on a Sunday when it's dark and cold outside, use disgusting port-o-potties, and make friends with 27,000 other insane fun people.... all to get another medal. :-)

nice run, you exceeded your goal! congrats. Sounds like a fun day. How did you miss "the train"? Did the half have a different course? My friends ran the full and were all delayed by the train. Needless to say, they were NOT happy about that.

Hi, sweet friend! I feel like I haven’t visited your blog in forever and I’m sorry. I see you’re still running and I think it’s great.

That is awesome that you both beat the goal you set for the race. Getting that medal must make you feel the greatest sense of accomplishment and make any pain, rain or fatigue worth it! Kudos to you and Scott :)
