Corpus Christi weekend recap part 1

We spent a lovely weekend in Corpus Christi because we were running the Harbor Half Marathon on Sunday morning. We left San Antonio on Saturday morning, checked into our hotel in Corpus, and then had lunch on Padre Island at the Padre Pizzaria. It was delicious although it didn't look like much from the outside. It was in a rundown strip mall but the pizza was very tasty! (We read the reviews on tripadvisor.com so we knew hoped it would be good). My husband got to watch football while eating pizza so he was in his happy place.

With our bellies stuffed full, we decided to do the scenic drive on Mustang Island and Port Aransas. We stopped to play on the beach at Mustang Island. It is always incredible to me to see the ocean.

There were wild sunflowers growing all over the sand dunes near the water. You can see the sunflowers behind me to the left here.

We always have fun where ever we go. We're silly together and we laugh a lot. I love this man to the moon and back.

After scooping up some sand in a bottle to add to our collection, we drove up to Rockport. As we're driving and I'm playing with my husband's iPhone, I looked at the google map to discover the road just ends at the north part of the island. Luckily there was a ferry we could take back to the mainland since we drove about an hour from where we started. The ferry was even free to get the truck back to Corpus! If you give this girl good pizza, sand, a chance to see the ocean, and a free boat ride, I turn into Homer Simpson. Happy Tasha.
We went back to the hotel where we had a view of the Harbor Bridge from our room. We knew the race route went across this bridge so we just stared at it with a feeling of impending doom. We knew we would have to run across this bee-otch not once, but TWICE. Since it was our first half marathon in 6 months, we knew we wouldn't break any records but we at least wanted to do a decent run. Seeing this bridge made us just hope we could finish the course! This bridge was STEEP and LONG!
Since we were already defeated by the bridge, we decided to just enjoy a nice dinner and screw the carbo load plan at Olive Garden. Instead of the OG, we went to a nice local restaurant at the top of our hotel. This was our view from The Republic of Texas Bar and Grill.
We could see the marina on one side of the restaurant and the U.S.S. Lexington on the other side. I had fresh fish and Scott had a steak. We both had wine. We also had chocolate torte for dessert. There was NO pasta on the menu. Oh well. I wouldn't change a single moment about the day even if it meant that we didn't take the half marathon seriously the next morning.

You can see the U.S.S. Lexington in blue at night here. They call it the "Blue Ghost" because it looks like it's floating across the harbor at night. It looks very creepy and but also very cool.
Here's my sweet husband with a mouth full of steak not at all thinking about running a half marathon the next morning.

Cheers to a great day in Corpus Christi!

Ahhh!! I lived like 10 minutes outside of Rockport in Ingleside, TX for 5 years! I love that area, especially Port Aransas. I want to take a vacay there sometime soon to reminisce.

I like that sand in a bottle idea. Might have to borrow it. ☺
