Weekends are precious!

First of all, THANK YOU to my blog friends for your sweet comments when I was stressed out about some situations that my husband and I are experiencing now. I know that everything will be okay and I should not worry so much. Sometimes I use my blog as my place to vent... it's not perfect but it's honest.

It's amazing what a difference it makes to:
  • Spend some time in prayer being thankful for the good things in life.
  • Make a choice not to dwell on the stress.
  • Have a fun filled weekend!

I think this quote says it well:

"Sorrow is a fruit. God does not allow it to grow on a branch that is too weak to bear it." ~ Victor Hugo

This weekend was exactly what I needed to get my head in a better place. We started Saturday morning with a charity 5 k race. We both wanted to try for a new PR and I am so proud of my husband and myself! We finished in 26:55!!! They didn't have D-tag timing chips so that is based on my watch. I was so tired at mile 2 that I almost walked a few steps, but I kept going and ran as fast as I could go. I came in 5/33 in my age group! I really wanted to beat 28 minutes (for a pace less than a 9:00 mile average) so I was amazed that I came in a whole minute faster than my goal! Yay!

We took our bikes to enjoy the paved trails after the run and did 11 miles including a few miles in some very hilly neighborhoods. I was wiped out after the morning filled with tough exercise, so I took a nap that afternoon.

Saturday night we went to the ELI YOUNG BAND concert. Tickets were $10 so it was a fun evening for a great price! They put on a fantastic show at Workplay. It's a smaller venue where we were able to sit while we watched the show. They had great interactions with the crowd, they tossed out guitar picks during the songs and looked like they were having fun on stage. Some crazy lady got on the stage with them and started dancing. It was hilarious!

They even stayed after the show to sign autographs and take pictures with their fans. My husband had never heard of them before but agreed to go with me anyway. He loved their music and we both had a blast at the show. I bought a CD and they autographed it for me. Am I too old for this? I think not. :-)

Your blog is a perfect place to vent, so no worries ;)

I’m so glad that you had a nice weekend and sometimes that along with some thought and prayer melts the stress away.

Congrats on beating your personal record and coming in 5th for your age group in the 5K. That is certainly something to celebrate!

The concert sounds like it was a lot of fun and sounds similar to how SafetySuit shows are. I always like seeing live music in a smaller venue and it’s always nice when the band stays afterwards. I’m glad you had fun!

For me, nothing like a 5k to make my world bright. Congrats - what a great race.
