We're keeping the dog...

Thanks to everyone who reposted Neko's picture and story on their blogs! The blogging network is such a wonderful community of caring people!

Yes, we are suckers. We can't resist an animal in need. We will keep him.

Here's the update on the abandoned Husky:

Neko is at the vet today being neutered and getting all his shots.

Good news:
The surgery went well and I should be able to pick him up soon.

Bad news:
Since his owners did not think it was important to give him a $5 per month heartworm preventative, the poor guy tested positive for heartworms. He also had two other types of intestinal parasites.

Anyone with a dog knows how important the heartworm pills are! We spend $5 per month per dog so we don't have to pay for the $425 heartworm treatment. Ouch. We will start his treatment in the next couple of months as soon as we save up the money.

So we have a new addition to the family....

Neko the Husky.

And our two Dobermans.

That's a lot of dogs.

At what point do we become "that crazy couple with all the dogs" that the neighbors talk about? I think we aren't far away from that classification.

That is so nice that you're taking care of him and I'm sorry to hear about the heartworms. That is really sad, but I think it's wonderful what you and hubby are doing for this dog.

I posted about him on my blog. I don't know if it will help, but I thought I would give it a try. I also left you an award.

Hi Tasha,
I just found your story at Jules.
Yeah! I'm so happy you are keeping sweet Neko.
He is a beautiful dog with gorgeous eyes.
I have heard that heartworms can be treated now. Can they do a payment plan at the vet? I hope he gets well soon.

My sister lives in Birmingham and is a teacher at VHHS. Small world in Blogland sometimes it seems.

Have a wonderful and blessed weekend.
~Warmly, Melissa :)

You're a star. Congratulations on your new addition.

Aren't negligent pet parents the worst? So glad Neko has found a new nurturing home. I'm sure you'll keep us posted along the way.

Hi, I am visiting from the blog Life as I Know it in Memphis and saw your post about Neko. What a beautiful dog. Don't let his loser owner take him back!!! I am so glad you and your husband will provide a wonderful home for this nice dog. What losers he lived with!! I am upset with people who think dogs are disposable and just throw them out of the house.... argh!! Our current 3dogs and all our late dogs are all adoptees and the most loving dogs ever. Bless you (and your other 2 sweet dogs)
