Rescue dogs are the best!

It's been a little over two years since we brought home the most shy, skinny dog I had ever seen. We found her on petfinder.org. Her name is Cricket and she is a Doberman mix found as a stray by animal control in another county. She came to us already housebroken and knowing how to sit and stay. She was someone's pet who was either abandoned or got lost from her family. We are so glad we found her!

This is how she looked on the day we brought her home. She was so skinny we thought we would break her by petting her. She weighed 42 lbs.

Here are some more recent pics of Cricket. Now, she weighs a little over 70 lbs. She loves long walks, dog biscuits, and cuddles.

Have you ever seen a happier dog?

Ohhhh! I love Cricket!!! I'm so glad you found her - she looks so happy!!! There is no love like that from a dog!!

Both of my babies (I mean puppies - but you know!!) are shelter babies. The first one the hubby and I got Zoe, had just been returned by a lady who got her as a pet (why do people do that!?!?) and the second, our precious Lulu was small, skinny and sick - she had been returned to the shelter 3 times. I have no clue why - she was a little hyper puppy but seriously the most loving doggie ever - she cuddles with us every morning and night!!

Sorry to ramble - I love puppies!!

I know a dog happier than Cricket, his name is Pretzel. Juan and I have 2 dachshunds. We bought Copper because he wanted a dog with AKC papers, purebred that looked like a champion. This one is the playful one. Less than a year later a friend told us about “this” dachshund. He was abandoned by the owners at petsmart because he had parvo and they did not want to pay for the treatment. Turns out she was the head vet at petsmart. We went there and fell in love with him immediately. That’s how Pretzel came to us. He only weighted 6 pounds (he now weights ~11 pounds). He looked even more fragile than Cricket. He is the sweetest, happier dog ever! The staff at petsmart is amazed at how well he is doing and at how happy he is now! : ) I think he couldn’t find a better home. And I agree with Lis, why people get dogs if they are going to change their mind after a couple of days…For me it is like returning a baby!

Cricket looks so happy and cute! She is definitely loved and cared for in your home. I think rescuing is the way to go. There are so many dogs out there that need a home and it breaks my heart.

I love hearing happy stories like this! You did a wonderful thing. We did buy Chase, but got Mandy from a lady that was going to take her to a shelter. I still count her as a rescue ;)

I think rescue dogs just appreciate everything for the rest of their lives. Trixie was a stray and I could not have picked a better pet! She is the sweetest ever!

I love to hear stories like this. I get so angry at people who do not take care of animals. It is soooo sad :(. I rescued a dog from the Wal-Mart back home. She lives wiht my parents. Although she is my dog, I guess you could say she is theres now. She is sooo smart too.

Oh my goodness! She is too cute! A fritnd of my family found a dog on the side of the road about 3 years ago. It was just a puppy...I mean tiny and skinny. So we took him in and he is literally the BEST dog I could ever imagine. Your are right, rescue dogs are the best!! My heart hurts just thinking about all of them out there.
